Phil Jackson says the Knicks will be a playoff team

president of basketball operations Phil Jackson said Friday that his expectations for year extension of their kould leave the club for Manchester United.Kane was linked to United after comments from ex-Red Devils captain Roy Keane on television.Keane said that United should go out and sign Kane in the summer to alleviate their goal scoring problems. But forever over the return of Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma.Silva says he won’t keep waiting to sign the Frenchman.“You are right, you are right,” Silva replied when asked if there would be a cut off point for his interest in Zouma.“Of course, one of O’Harait deal with sportswear firm Kappa until the end of the 2021/22 season, reports, /.According to Calcio Finanza, the original five-year agreement, due to expire at the end of the season, was worth €8 million (US$8.7 million)the team include the playoffs, a year after the Knicks didn’t make the postseason and then traded .

Phil, on expectations: “We believe we’re gonna be a playoff team [this year]. Then we don’t know how far we can go.”

— Chris Herring (@HerringWSJ)

Well, hey, it’s preseason. You’re supposed to have bold proclamations — 90 percent of the teams in the league might think they’re going to be playoff teams this year.

But then, you have to also remember the Knicks play in the East. There’s every reason to believe the team can compete, just by virtue of a soft conference and, arguably, a soft division. The Nets got worse on paper and have a new coach to get used to. The Raptors look like a lock to win the division, but their success last season was a surprise. Boston’s still very far off from being a contender and Philadelphia is undercooked chicken.

There are roster questions, big ones, including who starts at center and whether they’ll be able to defend adequately with and (the presumptive starter at point guard) on the floor. Their depth is not great. But Jackson has a magical effect on teams. It doesn’t hurt to set the expecation. And if they don’t get there, it’s unlikely Jackson will take heat for it. He’s just pretty heat-resistant in general.

Report: Quincy Acy likely to start for Knicks at power forward

might be the opening-night starter for the at power forward. The third-year heart-and-hustle guy has impressed head coach Derek Fisher in training camp and preseason, and he’s the “leading candidate” at the position, . It was originally thought that either , who is out with a sore hamstring, or  would have the spot, but Acy has started the last three games.

“No I didn’t plan on coming here to start,’’ Acy told The Post with a chuckle. “I planned on coming here and playing hard to earn minutes. I guess I impressed enough with my defense to earn a spot. I don’t knoe left-back position is up for grabs after a serious injury to Charlie Daniels in Sunday’s loss to Manchester City. With Daniels and Lloyd Kelly injured, Diego Rico is the only recognised senior player in the position. But Howe has called on the club’sw what coach got going if I’m starting or coming off the bench or not playing, but I’ll be happy.’’

Fisher said from the get-go it’s not the most talented five players who will start and intangibles would factor in. Jose Calderon, Carmelo Anthony and Samuel Dalembert have locked up the starting point guard, small forward and center positions, respectively. Iman Shumpert appears to have staked his claim to the starting shooting guard job.

Then there’s power forward, for which four guys are competing. Aside from Acy, Bargnani and Stoudemire, there’s free-agent signee Jason Smith, who missed time because of the birth of his daughter but lit up the Sixers for 14 points Tuesday night in Syracuse.

Acquired from the in August, fe the matchwinner for their 3-2 triumph at Newcastle United. The Reds won 3-2 thanks to supersub Origi heading home late on.He said: “Today was a big fight. We knew it beforehand.”We came here with a big heart, it wasn’t easy and you could see they werw would have predicted Acy would be in this position. He’s only 6-foot-7, but he plays taller than that because of his relentless energy. While he’s improved the form on his jumper considerably since coming out of Baylor, he’s not what you’d call a sharpshooter. The logic for starting Acy is that he’d do the dirty work, pass from the high post and let and handle most of the playmaking. Then Stoudemire and/or Bargnani could provide some scoring punch off the bench.

The issue here is defense. Acy tries extremely hard, but he’s foul-prone and not a great rim protector because of his height. Generally, guys like him will be fan favorites but be looked at as rp Guardiola refused to offer any guarantees on the future of Leroy Sane. The German winger could return from injury in the coming weeks, but he is also the subject of long term interest from Bayern Munich. While it would take a huge fee to tempt City teserves. Of course, if you’re looking at Stoudemire and Bargnani as alternatives, then it doesn’t really matter. Starting Acy sounds fun to me!

Odds Future: Stat lines odds for the upcoming season

Bovada released a bunch of interesting stat line props for the 2014-2015 season on Thursday. Here’s a look at the best.

Will score 50 points in one game during the 2014-2015 Regular Season?

Yes +1000 (10/1)

No -2000 (1/20)

Oh, this looks like easy pickings! It’s the Black Mamba! Vino! The Greater Laker! I mean, come on, Bryant dropped 50 super recently, right?

Yeah, it’s been five years since the Mamba put up half-a-hunny. But then again, . So there are points to be made on both sides.

The case for: He’s going to have as many shots as he wants and Byron Scott will never take him out or tell him to stop shooting; he scored 47 just a year and a half ago; he’s super-pissed about the ESPN criticism.

The case against: Two severe leg injuries, the defense will be primed on him, he’s 36, and players just don’t score over 50 anymore. Only six guys have done .

The verdict: It’s 10-to-1 that one of the greatest scorers of all time in a really pissed off state on a bad team with no other great options will hit it. You can talk yourself into this one pretty easily.

Will get traded during the 2014-2015 Season?

Yes -175 (7/4)

No +125 (5/4)

The case for: The have struck out on big free agents and the trade. That second superstar just isn’t coming. If they’re really going to rebuild, they’re not going to do it with Rondo, and they’re not going to do in a contract year. There have been strong suitors for him for years, including Houston and Sacramento.

The case against: Danny Ainge will let him go when his body is cold in the ground. Dude just won’t give up the ghost.

The verdict: Never Trust Ainge.

Will get traded during the 2014-2015 Season?

Yes EVEN (1/1)

No -140 (5/7)

The case for: Um, well, he’s been disastrously bad and he costs a lot of money.

The case against: SVG is going to want time to figure out what he has, moving him is difficult.

The verdict: Nah, let’s stay away from this one, your return on investment isn’t great here.

Will any Player Average 30 minutes per game or more during the 2014-2015 Regular Season?Yes -200 (1/2)No +150 (3/2)

The case for: Hahahahahahah.

The case against: “LOL,” as the kids say.

The verdict: I have no idea about this, it’s possible with . I just find it hilarious this is something you can bet on.

Will the be sold during the 2014-2015 Regular Season?

Yes +400 (4/1)

No -600 (1/6)

Well, this is officially a thing now. There have been rumors for the past year that Mikhail Prokhorov was ready to bail. The fact that there’s an actual line on it seems notable.

The case for: They according to Grantland, and let’s just say the .

The case against: Prokhorov has billions and billions and billions of dollars and can take his time, plus the new media deal is going to jack up the price significantly more, likely even beyond projections.

Will play in NBA game in the 2015-2016 Season?

Yes +125 (5/4)

No -175 (4/7)

Well, now I’m just sad.

Let’s move on.

Will Andrew Wiggin win the 2015 Slam Dunk Contest?

Yes +600 (6/1)

No -1000 (1/6)

The case for: Andrew Wiggins is awesome, can nearly glide from halfcourt, and has name recognition through the roof.

The case against: There may not be a slam dunk contest since previous versions have nearly killed it.

The verdict: At +600 I love this one. That’s pretty great return on value.

Bovada also released a complete list of stats over/unders. Some highlights:

2014-2015 Regular Season – Total Points – Over/Under 18

Horford has averaged 18 points per game or more in one season. It was last year’s. When he played in just 29 games. I don’t know what that says. Pass.

2014-2015 Regular Season – Total Points –

Over/Under 15½

He’s averaged over 15.5 twice in his career, including last year, in which he played in all 82 games. But the Celtics have a better roster this year, and more depth, and Green could very well be traded and lose the starting spot. I like the under.

2014-2015 Regular Season – Total Rebounds –

Over/Under 9

Run screaming to take the over on this. Sullinger is going to play heavy minutes, the Celtics have no bigs, they may trade , and Sullinger is a monster rebounder. Over, over, over.

2014-2015 Regular Season – Total Points –

Over/Under 17

Williams has averaged less than 17 points per game when he played over 12 games in a season just once since his sophomore season. It was last year. But the Nets have no depth. But Williams was not good last year. But…

2014-2015 Regular Season – Total Points –

Over/Under 22

I like the over. I think this is going to be a monster year for Jefferson. There will be better spacing which will open up things for Big Al. And the will play in more meaningful games which means more overtime and more minutes.

The Cavs are going to score all the points. Even if James misses time for rest and injury, his scoring total should remain high. It’s not a lock… but it’s close.

2014-2015 Regular Season – Total Rebounds – LeBron James

Over/Under 6½

Stay away. James has a league of great rebounders beside him now, and yet, he just tracks down caroms like a heat-seeking missile.

2014-2015 Regular Season – Total Points –

Over/Under 20

I mean… he’s sharing shots with LeBron, Kevin Love, , maybe , Anderson Varejao, and Shawn Marion. If Irving’s averaging 20, the Cavs could be in trouble.

Irving has been criticized as a playmaker, but he has great vision and excellent touch on his passes. The over here seems pretty safe.

2014-2015 Regular Season – Total Points –

They didn’t make any moves to boost their league-average defense, but there’s no real reason to expect a drop-off, either. Portland should be extremely optimistic about its chances given the Durant injury, and should be better than ever. This should be a close race.

It’ll be difficult for any Western Conference lottery team to get back in the playoff picture, but Denver has a chance. Let’s put it in simple terms: the horribly injury-ridden Nuggets won 36 games last year, and now they’ll have and starting on the wing. Those two, plus better health, a year of experience for head coach Brian Shaw and some production from promising rookies and is worth 10-15 wins or so, right?

Another way to look at it: Just two years ago, a similar group won 57 games under George Karl. Shaw has Afflalo instead of Andre Iguodala, but there’s still versatility and depth here. and have improved, too.

The problem is the West is just so tough. No team is trying to tank, even if a few should be. The Nuggets are obviously better than they were, but are they on the same level as the , the or the ? They’re going to have to leapfrog a couple of them just to make it to the postseason. That’ll take a great deal of luck, which was in terribly short supply for this club last year.

The look like League Pass darlings, and for good reason. Everyone wants to watch throwing alley-oops to Andrew Wiggins and Zach LaVine. I’m also curious to see if can build on his 2013-2014 season and if and can put theirs behind them. There are young, high-potential players in Minnesota, and the franchise has successfully sold its fanbase hope for the future. The present reality might not be as pretty a picture, though.

Wolves head coach Flip Saunders has the difficult job of divvying up the minutes. , and aren’t expecting demotions, and newcomers and expect to at least try to push for the postseason. That seems like Saunders’ goal, too, but how quickly will he change gears if that goes wrong? While those veterans are all solid, this group appears miles away from a playoff spot.

Right now it was left to rue the timing of Alexandre Lacazette’s goal in Sunday’s North London derby.Lacazette scored for Arsenal on the stroke of half-time to peg the scores back to 2-1 before Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang tied things up in the second half.Pochetti’s easy to be excited about Minnesota. I’m worried that, in January, we might not find this team half as interesting. At that point we could just be talking about how it should have completely gutted its roster.

I’ll bet on Durant remaining the most important, most valuable and best player in the division. Yeah, he’ll probably miss about 25 percent of the season, but those games could do just as much to show his worth as the ones after his return. I realize that it’s a bit weird to choose someone who’s currently rolling in and out of press conferences on a scooter, though.

Westbrook, Lillard and would all be fair picks, too. It’s just that, if Durant plays about 60 games and resembles the player he was last year, he’s still the guy.

I can see the being the league’s most improved team aside from the Cavs. What’s weird is they haven’t made a ton of additions to the roster. Rookies and can help right away, but more than anything the reason to be excited is new head coach Quin Snyder. He has Utah spreading the floor, moving the ball and launching 3s, which has made this preseason more enjoyable than any stretch of last year.

The Jazz have talent, but the question is how long it’ll take to turn this thing around. Is it possible for any coach to do it in one year? What we’ve seen is encouraging, but Snyder is trying to implement a new system, coax quick development out of several starters and find a way to make and complement each other. That’s a tall order, though Utah is blessed with low external expectations.

Cavs, Thunder playing like champions again – and the treat is ours

The truth is, Dec. 11 is way too early to get carried away with a regular season NBA game. In this case, the Cleveland Cavaliers and Oklahoma City Thunder getting together at full strength for a nationally televised collision might be worthy of an exception to the rule.

The Cavs have won eight in a row. The Thunder are 3-1 since Kevin Durant made his season debut after missing time with a foot fracture. Lo and behold, the Cavs — who were a .500 team on Thanksgiving Day — are now only two games out of the top spot in the East at 13-7. The Thunder, in danger of digging too deep a hole without Durant and Russell Westbrook to even make the playoffs, are onl hopes of on-loan Liverpool forward Ben Woodburn returning to action next month have been dashed by another injury. The Wales international returned to the Reds in October after breaking a bone in his foot against Accrington. He was “healing nicely”, sy two games in the loss column out of the eighth spot in the West.

Two teams that should’ve been championship contenders all along finally are beginning to play that way. Their misfortunes and recent recoveries make for a rare pre-Christmas treat when it comes to regular season games that matter.

During their eight-game winning streak, the Cavs have an astonishing net rating of 15.3, meaning they’ve been more than two touchdowns better per 100 possessions than their opponents. Their inconsistent offense (108.1 net rating for the season) has become almost unstoppable as Cleveland has scored 100 or more points in seven of the eight victories (resulting in an impressive 113.8 points per 100 possessions during the streak). Their defense has tightened up, as well, with Cleveland allowing only 98.6 points per 100 possessions over the eight games, compared to 103.7 for the season.

Same goes for the Thunder, who were 4-12 when Westbrook came back and are 4-1 since (including the 3-1 mark since Durant returned). Unsurprisingly, most of the difference has been felt on the offensive end. Since Durant returned, OKC has posted a 105.6 offensive rating, compared to 98 on the season. All the key offensive metrics (assist percentage, assist-to-turnover ratio, offensive rebounding percentage) are up, too.

For Durant and Westbrook, it would have been a personal rematch against LeBron James, whose Miami Heat beat the Thunder in the 2012 Finals. James, who is 13-4 against OKC since 2008-09, and has won three of the last four meetings while averaging 33.8 points on 62 percent shooting, will miss the game Thursday with a knee injury. For both teams, it’s a chance to test their newfound success against an opponent they could plausibly see again in June.

Through the first six weeks of the NBA season, Steve K was delighted to sign a new 12-month contract with Manchester City. The Brazilian, 34, was set to become a free agent at the end of this season. But he couldn’t have been happier to extend his stay at the Etihad.Fernandinho said: “This is the best poserr’s Golden State Warriors have stolen the show, with an electrifying offense, stingy defense and an 19-2 record. Doc Rivers’ Clippers have come alive, winning nine straight. Seven of the top eight teams in the West are playing at least .700 ball.

In the East, Toronto and Washington have proven to be the class of a conference that, once again, is clearly inferior. The Bulls are dealing with theiros as his injury is worst than originally feared.Rashford suffered a double stress fracture in his back against Wolves last month, with a six week prognosis given after the January 16 clash clash. But Solskjaer says the England international will be r usual injuries, and the Cavs are just starting to figure things out.

So for us, Cavs vs. Thunder is a rare December treat — a regular season NBA game that matters. It’s also a reminder of who will be there when it really matters.
